What You Should Know
Springs do the heavy lifting on a garage door. They counterbalance the door’s weight so the opener (or your arms) only has to guide it. When a spring breaks, the door suddenly feels like it weighs a few hundred pounds, and the opener may strain, hum, or give up entirely.
Most homes have either torsion springs, mounted on a bar above the door, or extension springs, which run alongside the horizontal tracks. Both are under serious tension, which is why we never recommend replacing them yourself. Our technicians carry common spring sizes on the truck, so most replacements are finished in one visit.

Spring Replacement Questions
On doors with two springs, we usually recommend replacing both. They were installed at the same time and have seen the same number of cycles, so the second one is often close to failing too. We’ll give you the option and the price for each before starting.
Most standard springs are meant to last a few years of normal use. Doors used many times a day wear springs out faster. We offer higher-cycle springs so our customers can get a longer life out of their garage door.
We don’t recommend it. Without the spring’s counterbalance the door is extremely heavy and can drop suddenly. Running the opener against a broken spring can also damage the opener. If your car is stuck inside, call us and we’ll prioritize the visit.
Yes. We repair both types. On older extension-spring doors we also check the safety cables that keep a broken spring from whipping loose.
