What You Should Know
Rollers are the small wheels that carry your door up and down the tracks. Every section of the door rides on them, so when they wear out the whole door feels it: more noise, more vibration, and more strain on the opener and hinges.
Older doors often have bare steel rollers, which get loud and wobbly as their bearings wear. Upgrading to quality nylon rollers with sealed bearings is one of the simplest ways to make a door noticeably quieter. While we’re there we also check the hinges and tracks, since worn rollers often chew up both.

Roller Replacement Questions
For most homes, yes. Nylon rollers with sealed ball bearings run much quieter and don’t need frequent lubrication. Steel rollers are durable but get noisy as they wear.
The upper rollers are simple, but the bottom rollers sit in brackets connected to the lift cables, which are under spring tension. Removing those brackets without releasing tension can cause serious injury, so we recommend leaving those to a technician.
It varies with the roller type and how often the door is used. Rather than a fixed schedule, replace them when you notice noise, wobble or visible damage.
In most cases, yes, especially when replacing worn steel rollers. If noise continues, the cause may be loose hardware, the opener’s drive, or springs, and we’ll check those too.
